About

from Macaco studio

Mud Matters is a magical ceramic studio that offers a vibrant, positive, and relaxing retreat right in the heart of New York City. For over 40 years, the corner of 46th Street and 10th Avenue has been the home studio of so many creative clay artists and students. Six years ago, when the then owner needed to close the business, we recognized what a special piece of NYC history this studio was. We upgraded and expanded the programs and enjoyed nurturing the creative and supportive community of member artists and students.

We invite you to join this community and either learn basic pottery or advance your skills by working with one of our experienced and inspiring teachers. The studio offers a full complement of pottery equipment and a wide assortment of studio glazes, as well as two large electric kilns.

Mud Matters offers courses and workshops, along with a schedule of practice sessions during which registered students can work independently. The intimate space ensures a relaxed workspace, personalized attention to students, and an opportunity to stretch your creativity under the guidance of a team of skilled and attentive teachers.

Our course schedule for the next session is available here.

If you are already skilled in working with clay and are looking for a ceramic studio where you can work independently as a monthly member, please check out our sister studio, La Mano Pottery. La Mano has a generous schedule of times throughout the week where our members can freely use the studio and equipment.

You can read our COVID-19 policies on the Studio Info page.
